Kanye May Get Banned From France
Kanye West, also known as Ye, has already been barred from entering the United Kingdom, where he had been scheduled to headline Wireless Festival in London.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is now reportedly examining legal avenues to prevent West from performing at a planned concert in Marseille this June. Nuñez’s office confirmed the government’s determination to block the show in comments to the AFP on Tuesday.
The development follows strong opposition from Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan, who publicly spoke out against the concert last month on X (formerly Twitter). “I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism,” Payan stated at the time. “Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and of all Marseillais.”
This would mark the second recent instance of a country taking steps to stop West from performing. The UK government denied his entry application for Wireless Festival, citing his pattern of antisemitic statements and behavior in recent years. In response, festival organizers announced the full cancellation of the event. “As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel,” they posted on Instagram. “All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.”
West addressed the UK situation directly, expressing a desire to make amends and offering to meet with representatives from London’s Jewish community. “To Those I’ve Hurt: I’ve been following the conversation around Wireless and want to address it directly. My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music,” he wrote. “I know words aren’t enough — I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here. With Love, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.”
Despite these setbacks, West has multiple international performances still scheduled in the coming months, including shows in the Netherlands, India, and several other countries. The dates follow the release of his latest album, Bully, which dropped last month.
