Lil Jon's Son's Cause Of Death
Lil Jon’s son, Nathan Smith, was reported missing on February 3 and was later discovered near a pond close to his home on February 6. The 27-year-old’s passing has left his family devastated, as they continue to process the loss during an incredibly difficult time. Authorities have since confirmed the cause of death, bringing some clarity, though not relief, to those grieving. According to reports from Billboard, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Nathan died from drowning, noting that it occurred “in the setting of psilocybin use.”
Psilocybin, commonly referred to as “magic mushrooms,” is a naturally occurring compound found in certain mushrooms. It can significantly alter perception, often causing changes in sight, sound, and a person’s sense of time and space, as explained by the National Institutes of Health. While the substance remains controversial, some federal research agencies, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, are currently studying its potential therapeutic benefits for mental health conditions and substance abuse.
On February 18, which marked the first day of Ramadan, Nathan was laid to rest. The following day, Lil Jon shared an emotional message along with a tribute video on Instagram, asking for prayers for his son and strength for his family during the holy month. He expressed deep sorrow, writing that life would never be the same without Nathan and praying for peace, mercy, and perseverance.
Nathan was remembered by his father as a kind, thoughtful, and passionate individual. He followed in Lil Jon’s footsteps as a musician, performing under the name DJ Young Slade. A graduate of New York University, he released a song titled “Move Thru Fire,” which was featured in the tribute video honoring his life.
He was the son of Lil Jon and Nicole Smith, who ended their marriage in 2022 after 18 years together.
